Feeling low or anxious? Mental health support in the UK
Moving country is stressful, and it is normal to struggle. The NHS treats mental health like any other health need, and asking for help is confidential and free. Your GP is the usual first step: they can talk through options, prescribe treatment or refer you onwards. In England you can also refer yourself directly to NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression without seeing a GP first - search online for your local service; interpreters can be arranged, so limited English is not a barrier. If you or someone else is in crisis now, call 111 and select the mental health option for urgent NHS support, call or text Samaritans free on 116 123 any time (they listen, in confidence), or call 999 or go to A and E if there is immediate danger to life. Nothing you say affects your visa - health services do not report patients to immigration authorities.
