Registering to vote and other ways to prove your address

Being on the electoral roll is one of the strongest forms of address proof in the UK and noticeably improves your credit file. Who can register depends on citizenship: British and Irish citizens, qualifying Commonwealth citizens and (for some local elections) certain foreign nationals with permission to stay can register. Turkish citizens are generally not eligible to vote in UK elections unless they also hold an eligible citizenship - check the rules on GOV.UK, and never falsely claim eligibility, as that is an offence. If you cannot register, you can still build address proof quickly: your tenancy agreement, council tax bill, bank statements posted to your home, utility bills in your name, an official HMRC or DWP letter, or your GP registration letter are all widely accepted. Get at least two bills into your own name early - it unlocks banking, credit and many services.
